Changes in Top Nepal Bureaucrats
HMG of Nepal has recently made major changes in its bureaucracy. The summary is as follows.
1. Home Secretary Mr. Chandi Prasad Shrestha has been transferred to reserve pool.
2. Acting Secretary for the Elections Commission Mr. Suvarna Lal Shrestha has been sent back to his original position of Joint Secretary.
3. Joint Secretary Mr. Krishna Bahadur Shrestha has been appointed Acting Secretary for Department of National Alert.
4. Joint Secretary Mr. Navin Kumar Shrestha has been appointed Acting Secretary for Ministry of foreign Affairs.
Chandi Prasad Shrestha is considered candidate apparent to the post of Chief Secretary. Suvarna Lal Shrestha is considered the honest and able administrator. Appointment of Navin Kumar Shrestha as Acting Secretary for Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been challenged on the ground that he has not completed a tenure of 5 years as Joint Secretary as provided by law.
Lucky secretary Narayan Prasad Silwal in the reserve pool has been appointed secretary to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
Nine joint secretaries have been promoted to the post of secretary. There is not a single Newar among the promoted secretaries.
Navin Kumar Shrestha and Krishna Bahadur Shrestha are the only two Newars among the five joint secretaries having appointed to the post of 5 acting secretaries.
